John Mayer began working as the weekday morning meteorologist at KVAL in September 2018. After pit stops working as a meteorologist in both Jackson, Mississippi and Midland, Texas, he is happy to call the Pacific Northwest home!
Born on the east coast, John’s journey to Oregon has taken a few twists and turns along the way. After graduating from Bowling Green State University in Ohio with a Bachelor’s in Geography, he was a bit unsure of his next step. After a bit of soul searching, he decided to pursue a career in television. John’s next move took him south to Starkville, Mississippi where he earned a Master’s in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. That led to his first job on-air in 2014 and a love of the business that’s staying strong to this day!
Working early mornings may not be for everyone, but John loves getting the opportunity to help wake you up bright and early each and every day! When he's not tracking the weather, John is...well, a bit of a homebody. A self-described "indoor weatherman," he's always sure to embrace the quiet of a good lazy Sunday with a bit of gaming on the side (ask for his gamertag to see just how bad his skills are first-hand). With his makeshift indoor gym, he's only one giant upside-down water bottle away from embracing a full-on hamster lifestyle!
