Oregon State rowing team gets a jump on the season
EEL LAKE, Ore. - The Pac 12 and National Rowing Championships are still eight months away, but the Oregon State men's rowing team is already hard at work getting ready.
The Beavers held training camp on the south coast this weekend at Tugman State Park on Eel Lake.
"We want to kick off the season with a good amount of mileage to kind of knock off the dust from the summer and to start the year off on a good foot," said Gabe Winkler, head coach of the OSU rowing team.
The team says that Eel Lake is not only beautiful, but has the perfect conditions to train as well.
"Not a lot of people have the opportunity to come to a place like this and row, so it gives us a huge advantage when we come here," said Austin Demartine, a member of the rowing team.
The Beavers placed third at the Pac 12 Championships last year, and 20th at nationals.
Their coach says the goal is to make the top 10 at nationals this year.
