Elderly Mason County couple with dementia found safe
SHELTON, Wash. - An elderly Mason County couple with dementia who disappeared Monday have been found safe and have returned to their Shelton home, the Mason County Sheriff's Office says.
The couple, who suffer from dementia and other medical conditions, disappeared after driving to Thurston County on Monday.
The couple, identified as Robert and Constance Thomas, ages 87 and 88, of Shelton, were reported missing Tuesday morning by their granddaughter, said Chief Deputy Ryan Spurling of the Mason County Sheriff's Office.
Law enforcement officials said the couple apparently drove to a residence in Thurston County and left there at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, but they never returned home.
An investigation found that their debit card was used at a gas station in Brooks, Ore., at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
They were later seen about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday in the Portland area near Interstate 5. They asked for directions to Washington, the Mason County Sheriff's Office says.
