WINSTON, Ore. – Police in Winston are advising citizens to be on the lookout after a man attempted to lure a teenager Sunday night.

According to police, a 16-year-old girl reported she was walking home around 10:30-10:45 p.m. Sunday.

While walking south on Darrell toward Thompson, she reported a man drove down Darrell in an unknown-year red or maroon Chrysler or Cadillac, and rolled down his window.

The man only rolled the window down enough for her to hear him, not see him, the report said.

The teen said she could see he had light hair, maybe gray, and he sounded like he was in his 40s or 50s with a gravelly voice, described to be "like a smoker."

According to the report, the man asked her for her name and she told him her name.

The man then told her he knew her mom, and that her mom was at the hospital and they needed to go there right away.

The girl had just hung up after a call with her mom and knew the man was lying, police said.

“She told him he was a freak and ran home,” the report said.

The vehicle turned down Suksdorf toward Grape.

The girl said when the vehicle pulled up to her it was very quiet, and that she didn't notice it until it was right next to her. She described the headlights as extremely dim.

If you have any information on this incident, you’re asked to contact the Winston Police Department.
