ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Roseburg Fire Department will soon allow residents to burn backyard debris at home.

Beginning next week, residents within city limits can buy a burn permit from RFD.

People can burn items such as trimmings and clippings from bushes and trees.

However, you’re not allowed to burn garbage, including plastics, tires or construction material.

"The noxious fumes and the smell and neighbors complain,” explains Roseburg Fire Marshal Monte Bryan, “and we want to keep a happy neighborhood, obviously. Once those things start to burn, they do produce a lot of smoke."

The Roseburg Fire Department will issue seven-day burn permits from April 15 through mid-May.
