Police say to protect valuables while investigating Roseburg car break-ins
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- If you're tempted to leave valuables in your car, you might want to think twice before you do.
The Roseburg Police Department is investigating a number of cars with windows that had been smashed and items taken from the car.
Officers responded to Applebee's in Roseburg to two car break-ins with missing valuables, crimes police sometimes call "smash and grabs."
Police then got a call about two similar incidents in the Stewart Parkway area.
They say there are ways to keep your things safe.
"Cover [the items] up so they can't be seen from outside the car, but the best rule of thumb is to just not leave any kind of valuables inside your vehicle when you're not going to be inside the car," said Roseburg Police Sgt. Dennis Chrisenbery.
RPD says they've been able to return most of the stolen property, but there have been no arrests in the case.
