Police say teenage boy with gunshot wound found near Salem middle school

SALEM, Ore. – Salem police say a teenage boy was shot near Houck Middle School Monday morning.

The shooting caused the school to issue a lockdown, but it has since been lifted.

According to police, officers responded to a report of a shooting at 8:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Lancaster Drive Southeast.

Officers found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Salem Health for treatment and is expected to survive.

Police do not believe the shooting occurred where the boy was located.

They're continuing to investigate.
