Police: Roseburg man charged with murder after early morning standoff

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A woman is dead after police investigated a 911 call reporting gunshots Monday morning in Roseburg.

Around 2 a.m. neighbors reported hearing gunshot and police asked them to leave their homes while they investigated.

Police responded to the home at 1026 SE Fullerton after 40-year-old David R. Kelley called 911 Dispatch to report that he had shot and killed his wife, 42-year-old Ginette Duvall.

Once on scene, officers learned that Kelley was armed with firearms and would not come out of the residence.

Officers initiated phone contact with him and after several hours of negotiations, he surrendered peacefully.

Kelley was lodged in the Douglas County Jail on Murder charges.

Police say once Kelley was in custody, officers found Duvall inside the residence deceased from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team will assume the investigation. RPD was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Douglas County Fire District 2, and the DA's Office.

UPDATE: David R. Kelley was found guilty of murder on March 17, 2017.
