
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — A Creswell woman is dead following an incident involving a firearm, the Cottage Grove Police Department reports.
On Sunday (June 9), Cottage Grove Police officers and Lane County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence in the 2100 block of E. Main Street in Cottage Grove on reports of a woman who had sustained a gunshot wound.
Officers, deputies, and paramedics from South Lane Fire and Rescue attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.
The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"Based on the initial investigation, it was determined the woman was handling a firearm when it discharged, striking her and causing a gunshot wound," the Cottage Grove Police Department said. "There were several witnesses to the incident, which is believed to be accidental at this time."
The deceased is a 25 year-old resident of Creswell.
"Her identity is not being released at this time, pending notification by the County Medical Examiner’s office," CGPD stated.
The Police Department is being assisted by detectives from the Lane County Sherriff’s Office, who are leading the follow-up investigation into the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
