COOS BAY, Ore. -- A Coos Bay man was arrested after an altercation with his underage girlfriend, Coos County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Around 11:20 p.m. Monday, deputies were dispatched to 91568 Pemberton Lane in Coos Bay for a reported trespass where they made contact with the suspect, 23-year-old Robert Day of Coos Bay, who insisted he did nothing wrong and left the property when asked to do so, the report said.

Deputies then contacted the parties at the residence and learned a physical altercation had taken place between Day and his 17-year-old girlfriend, police said.

Deputies were told Day had pushed his girlfriend down to the ground and later strangled her for at least 20 seconds before others stepped in and physically pulled him off her, the report said.

While speaking with the victim, deputies learned she was having a sexual relationship with Day.

He was arrested for fourth degree domestic assault, strangulation and third degree sex abuse.

Day was transported to the Coos County Jail, where he was booked and held on $30,000 bail.
