Person of interest named in Coquille homicide investigation

COQUILLE, Ore. - Police have released information concerning the homicide investigation that was taking place in Coquille on Saturday at a residence located at 618 South East 3rd Street.

The homicide victim has been identified as at Gregory Scott Durham, 46, of Coquille.

Durham was the primary occupant of that residence.

An autopsy will be conducted on the body later this week, and the exact cause of death will be determined, though the evidence shows that Durham died of homicidal violence,

The body of Durham was found as the result of an assault investigation where the assault is believed to happen in the residence where Durham was located.

The victim of assault, Michael Lucas, had significant stab and blunt trauma injuries to his head and face. He has been transferred to River Bend Hospital, where he is reported to be in good condition.

Police arrested 34-year-old Manuel Daniel Delgado for the assault on Lucas.

Delgado is believed to have been staying with Durham in the house, and he was found asleep inside Durham's home at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. It was then that Mr. Delgado was taken into custody without incident.

"We are investigating what if any connection Mr. Delgado has to the death of Mr. Durham," District Attorney Paul Frazier said in a statement. "We would describe him as a person of interest in the case at this time."
