ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Oregon Business Magazine listed a Douglas County winery among its '100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon'.

The list includes two Douglas County destinations: Abacela Winery and Wildlife Safari.

“We were both surprised and pleased, especially since only eight Oregon wineries total were included in the ‘100 Best Fan-Favorite Destinations in Oregon’,” said Abacela's Earl Jones.

Of the eight wineries, Abacela was the only one on the list not from the Willamette Valley.

The other 92 destinations included popular tourist sites like Crater Lake.

“We knew by the invite that we were in the Top 100, but it was great to be in Portland and find out that Abacela placed in the top 2/3rds of the list at number 64,” said Abacela's Paula Caudill.

“It’s very meaningful that the actual scores and decisions that created the ranking were based on customers, and not derived by us," said Craig Peebles, events manager at MEDIAmerica. "This is a list that Oregon fans, both visitors and residents, will find extremely useful.”

Oregon Business Magazine and MEDIAmerica stated the list was based on 22,000 reviews posted in the past year on Google, TripAdvisor and Yelp. Scores were tallied and combined to determine the level of travelers’ overall satisfaction. The scores were then ranked to create the 100 Best Fan-Favorites Destinations list.

“It’s especially meaningful that the results were based entirely on our customer’s opinions," said Abacela's hospitality manager, Susan Stiles-Sumstine. "Thank you to all our valuable customers for making us a top 100 fan-favorite Oregon destination.”

Oregon Business Magazine and MEDIAmerica are also publishers of the '100 Best Companies to Work For' and other such lists.
