Mother kills 8-year-old son, turns gun on herself
GRANTS PASS, Ore. — [Update 7/9/18] Grants Pass Department of Public Safety have released the name of the mother who shoot her 8-year-old son and then herself.
Police say she is 27-year-old Rachel Shoemaker of Grants Pass.
Police will not release the name of her son.

Grants Pass Police are investigating a family-related murder-suicide that has claimed the life of an 8 year-old boy.
Police confirm that a woman shot her son Sunday morning in Grants Pass near K Street. The woman shot herself shortly after.
Both the mother and son were pronounced deceased.
Police say the call came in around 9:30 AM.
The incident occurred on K Street in between 8th and 9th street. The area was closed for an extended period of time and is now clear.
Police are unsure of the motive and are continuing to investigate the incident.
The mother and son will not be identified until next of kin is notified.
