EUGENE, Ore. - City officials say that over the last five years, Eugene's population has increased, and so have public safety needs.

However, police and 911 staffing has remained flat over that time period. Because of this, officials are looking to make a change.

Chief Skinner says that the hiring process for new officers is already in motion.
