EUGENE, Ore. - Saturday's big game against Stanford was the perfect fundraising opportunity for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and Eugene/Springfield Firefighters joined the national "Fill the Boot" fundraiser.
They were walking around tailgating areas and collecting donations in their boots at Autzen Stadium.
The local director of the MDA says that the funds help children with the disease.
"The fire departments from all over the nation help send children with muscular dystrophy diseases to specially adapted summer camp," said Malissa Bare, the MDA Area Director. "A lot of children are in wheelchairs they've never met anyone else like that and they can do every activity."
Last year, the firefighters were able to raise around $5,000 in the day.
