Level 2 'Get Set' evacuation notice issued for homes near South Umpqua Complex fires

Detail from Oregon Emergency Management Raptor map shows approximate location of the 300-acre Miles Fire in the South Umpqua Complex relative to the closest address subject to the LEVEL 2 Get Set evacuation notice.

DREW, Ore. - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office issued a Level 2 "Get Set" evacuation notice for some residents living near the South Umpqua Complex of wildfires.

The notice applies to addresses 1642 through 3200 (Flats Ranch) Tison Road.

The Oregon RAPTOR map shows a fire burning east of those addresses.

"A Level 2, or 'SET' evacuation indicates there is a significant danger to the area and residents should either voluntarily relocate outside of the affected area with family or friends. If choosing to remain, be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "It is strongly encouraged that residents in proximity of the fire, even if not in the listed evacuation notice, stay informed via media outlets and information from fire officials."

The homes are located near the Miles Fire, one of six higher priority fires that comprise the South Umpqua Complex.

Fire officials said the Miles Fire had grown to about 300 acres despite retardant drops from aircraft and dozer work on the ground.

The fire is one of 40 ignited on the Umpqua National Forest by lightning on Sunday, July 15.

The National Weather Service said a meteorologist from Portland has been dispatched to the scene to assist.
