Leif wins County Commissioner race, won't face November run-off election
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Douglas County Primary Election results were tallied Tuesday night at the courthouse.
Money requests for the Yoncalla and South Umpqua school districts were turned down by voters.
The Sutherlin Valley Recreation measure also got a thumbs down.
The No votes in all three cases were by more than a 50 percent margin.
Meanwhile, voters approved a City of Reedsport gas tax with almost 52 percent of the voters saying yes.
In the race for Douglas County Commissioner, Position 1, Gary Leif was the winner with more than 50 percent of the vote. Victoria Hawks was runner up.
"The message that I was sending out to the people was resonating with them, that they liked what I had to say, that we have to get back into timber; we have to demand our fair share," said Leif.
Because he cracked the 50 percent mark, Leif will not be forced into a November run-off with Hawks.
