Kids 'Bring the Outdoors In' at Family Fun Day

The event, designed for children, focused on making art with all of your five senses. Organizers set up art stations for families at UO's Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, where children were able to create art, inspired by pieces in the gallery.

EUGENE, Ore. — Today was family fun day at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum at the University of Oregon.

The activities had a environmentally friendly theme.

Today's theme was "bring the outdoors in." Family's could enjoy live performances at the free event.

Kids made nature-inspired art and crafts like mini terrariums, bottle cap bugs, and watercolor landscapes. Many of these were made with recycled materials.

The museum does this twice a year, hoping to get kids interested in art at a young age.

"I think it's a great way to get kids involved with art,” said Hannah Bastian, the Museum Education Program Manager. “It's more accessible than maybe just going galleries. You get to create things that are inspired by the galleries and maybe see the galleries in a different way."

The next family fun day will take place next spring, and we got a clue that the next theme will involve musical instruments.
