ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Kids across Douglas County found a new and healthy way to get to school.
Blue Zones Project Umpqua and Bike Walk Roseburg celebrated National Walk and Bike to School Day.
Participating schools included Fir Grove and Glide elementary schools, along with others around the county, including Jo Lane, Eastwood, Green, Hucrest and Roseburg Junior Academy.
Organizers say it's important to support safe and healthy routes to school.
"But also just to be in the outdoors," Juliete Palenshus said. "It seems like that naturally produces this enthusiasm and they start connecting and talking together before school. So they get that connection as well as the movement."
Volunteers and staff also wore reflective vests to ensure the safety of the kids.
