SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- Around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, crews from Douglas Forest Protective Association and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 responded to a natural cover fire about 12 miles west of Sutherlin, near the 5,000 block of Hubbard Creek Road.

Crews arrived on scene of what they've dubbed the Hubbard Creek Fire and found it burning in logging slash.

Crews used a bulldozer to create fire lines around the majority of the fire and then created hand line around the remainder.

Once the fire had a containment line all the way around it, crews installed hose lays and remained on scene until 9 p.m. mopping up hot spots.

Officials say the fire burned approximately 5 acres.

The cause is currently under investigation.
