KALAMA, Wash. – A grass fire blocked part of Interstate 5 northbound near Kalama, Wash. On Monday afternoon.

The fire was first reported about 3 p.m. near milepost 33. It quickly burned up a hillside to the east of the interstate, near Bluff Road.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office closed the Old Highway, a county road that runs parallel to I-5 between Mt Pleasant Road and Kalama River Road while a helicopter drops water on the fire. The road was still closed late Monday night, and the sheriff's office said it will likely be closed overnight.

Deputies say there is no need for any evacuations. Washington State Patrol said crews are monitoring the situation should evacuations become necessary.
