Grant will allow added DUII patrols for Myrtle Creek Police
MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. -- Thanks to a grant from the NHTSA, the Myrtle Creek Police Department will be adding extra patrols during the holidays.
The department received funding from Oregon Impact to put extra patrols on the streets looking for impaired drivers.
The grants allow for extra patrols during the times when impaired drivers are likely to be on the road. These grants are very important, officials say, especially with the limited resources of a small town police department.
The overtime patrols are a great way to increase the police presence, which often helps deter people who may be thinking about getting behind the wheel after they have been drinking.
The holiday period between Christmas and the New Year holiday weekend are the primary focus of the extra patrols.
The DUII Blitz will run from December 15, 2017 until January 1, 2018.
