Firefighters respond to leaking substance at recycling center, hear explosions at scene

    PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Fire and Rescue is responding to a possible chemical leak at a recycling center in Northwest Portland.

    Crews responded to a report of a Hazmat incident at 6161 NW 61st Avenue at 11:35 a.m.

    When they arrived, firefighters discovered a 55-gallon drum leaking an unknown substance. They could hear small explosions inside the building.

    Officials feel confident the leaking product is confined to the inside of the building.

    Firefighters helped evacuate the building.
