Fire breaks out in particle board press at mill in Dillard
DILLARD, Ore. - A fire broke out in the particle board press at the Roseburg Forest Products on Old Highway 99 Thursday morning, Douglas County Fire District No. 2 said.
Firefighters responded to the mill at 10:21 a.m.
"The crews arrived to find a large amount of smoke coming from the structure that housed the particle board press. Employees of the mill advised the crews that the fire had started in the upper area of the press and then traveled across the rafters into another section of the structure," the fire district said in a statement. "A fire crew made access to the interior space and advised they had a significant amount of fire, so a second alarm was activated."
Fire crews and Roseburg employees worked to extinguish the fire.
"Due to the size of the structure and the size of the particle board press, it took crews over an hour to extinguish all the burning debris and extinguish all of the hot spots," according to the fire district.
The extent of the damage is not yet known.
No one was injured.
In addition to Douglas County Fire District 2, crews from Winston-Dillard Fire, Roseburg Fire, Myrtle Creek Fire, Lookingglass Fire and Tenmile Fire responded to assist.
