Douglas County authorities advise public on sex offender's release
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is notifying the public that a sex offender has been released into the community.
Uriah Shawn Strauss is listed as a Level III sex offender and is on post-prison supervision for sex abuse 1, failure to report as a sex offender.
Special Conditions include no contact with minors, restricted from places where minors congregate, geographic restriction from Douglas County Library, US post offices and businesses that maintain private PO boxes for clients. He's also to have no use of computers or digital electronic media.
According to the sheriff's office, he targets victims by requesting assistance from women unknown to him and stalks them. He targets adult females that are unknown to him in public places who he detains and attempts to sexually assault, the report says.
The sheriff's office says he has contacted women through various media and stalked them at their place of work. On two occasions, Strauss attempted to kidnap women for the purpose of sexual assault.
Strauss also attempts to to contact women through social media, phone book records, and advertisements and obtains personal information from magazines that have been donated that did not have the address label removed.
In the past he has contacted professional women through advertisements for their businesses.
He recently attempted to contact women by phone, email and the US Postal Service.
Police say if Strauss attempts contact, notify Douglas County Community Correction immediately at (541) 957-8148.
