Coos County deputy arrests woman attempting to flee during security check of property
COOS COUNTY, Ore. -- The Coos County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman and cited two men after investigating a theft during a security check.
Around 4 p.m. Thursday, a deputy conducted the check on a piece of property near Cape Arago Highway and Coos Head Road after observing a vehicle parked in front of a “No Trespassing” sign.
The deputy found evidence of cedar bough theft and searched the area, eventually finding three people--44-year-old Jared Matheson, 35-year-old Matthew Carlson and a woman who identified herself as Heather Matthews--all of whom emerged from the trail.
Police say the men were positively identified but the woman could not be located in law enforcement databases. Further investigation revealed her to be 39-year-old Heather Dials, who had active warrants for her arrest out of the Oregon State Parole Board for Parole Violation.
The deputy attempted to arrest Dials, but she fled on foot and the deputy lost sight of her, the report said.
K9 Odin responded to assist and track Dials, who was later located while trying to flee the area by Oregon State Police.
Dials was arrested for the warrant and additionally charged for Escape III, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Giving False Information to a Peace Officer and Criminal Trespass II.
The men, Matheson and Carlson, were both cited and released for Criminal Trespass II.
Matheson will be referred to the Coos County District Attorney’s Office for Interfering with a Peace Officer, the sheriff's office said.
Matheson was cited by Oregon State Police for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine.
Dials was transported to the Coos County Jail and housed.
The Coos County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Oregon State Police, Coos Bay Police Department, and North Bend Police Department
