18-year-old dies in accident on Hwy 101

Details involving a fatal crash on Highway 101 have surfaced after the motor-vehicle accident occurred on Friday morning.

TILLAMOOK COUNTY, Ore. - An 18-year-old died after her car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a log truck Friday morning on Highway 101, Oregon State Police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Saab, operated by Mikayla Michelle Howard, 18, crossed into the opposite lane of travel for an unknown reason.

The vehicle struck a 2018 Kentworth log truck head on, which was driven by Howard Edwin Rhoades, 64.

Howard, the driver of the Saab, was transported by ambulance to TIllamook Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. She was later transported by Life Flight helicopter to OHSU for further treatment. Eventually, she died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Rhoades was not injured as a result of the crash.

Highway 101 was closed for close to 2 hours. after the crash.
