Ashley Honea took a cross-country leap to join the KPIC news team as a morning anchor and multimedia journalist in March of 2016.
Ashley joins the southern Oregon team from her home state of South Carolina where her passion journalism sprouted at a young age from her innate, insatiable curiosity about people. Her career path began in a third grade classroom in Greenville, South Carolina when she dressed up as a news reporter for career day.
Throughout her young life, she consumed morning news every single day along with her bowl of oatmeal, read the papers and debated politics and current events around the dinner table. Graduating with honors with a B.A. in Mass Communications and a minor in political science from the University of South Carolina, Ashley worked for Carolina News, debuting twice daily newscast. Her roles alternated between anchor, reporter, producer and director. At the same time, Ashley interned for Columbia’s CBS affiliate, WLTX, where she sharpened her writing skills, on-camera presentation & delivery, and production. She reported on the devastating flood that struck the midlands of South Carolina in the Fall of 2015, working with NBC’s Jay Gray to gain first-hand experience narrating the dramatic stories of others’ loss.
Ashley’s devotion and adoration for news comes from the people. She believes each person we meet has a different passion and distinctive, colorful stories; the best are when she simply lends an ear or performance an act of kindness, never knowing who is in desperate need of either.
Ashley is thrilled to be living in the astonishingly beautiful Douglas County and takes such pride in reporting on its incredible and inspiring citizens on a daily basis. In her free time, you’ll catch Ashley hanging out with her two Labrador Retrievers, Moose and Frosty, exploring the great outdoors.
