ROSEBURG, Ore. -- It's fall, and that means football season is here. We begin our Touchdown 2012 series, and we start off with a look at the Roseburg Indians.
The Indians hope to be flying high this 2012 season, but head coach Thurman Bell says his squad will have to overcome some inexperience as his young team progresses. "We've got a lot of kids out here who played a lot of freshman ball, a lot of JV ball, and we're trying to get them up to tempo, up to speed what it's gonna be like at the varsity level," said Bell.
Hayden Lent, the senior quarterback, says they are taking steps to make sure they are ready for the opener. "We're looking to improve on some of our weaknesses we have with our young guys, and they're definitely stepping it up a notch, taking it day by day," he said.
Jake Heverly, a senior running back and defensive back, says he's optimistic about the young squad. "We're a young team, and don't have very much experience, but there's a lot of guys coming up from the JV level that can play and have size, and I think they'll do a good job," he said.
The Indians open with a home game on Friday against South Salem.
Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
