Sutherlin comes from behind, defeats Banks in 4A girls championship

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- The Sutherlin girls basketball team came from behind to defeat Banks for 2017 OSAA 4A Girls Basketball State Championship Saturday night in Forest Grove.

It was the fourth straight state title for the SHS girls.

The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 18 points before chipping away to take a 49-43 victory.

After trailing by 6 at the half, Sutherlin outscored the Braves 19-9 in the fourth quarter.

Taylor Stricklin led the Bulldogs with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Harley Baker had 11 points.

It was the fourth straight tourney win for Sutherlin en route to the title.

Previously in the tourney, the fifth-seeded Bulldogs knocked off Seaside Friday, 57-44, to advance to the title game against the Braves.

Sutherlin defeated Mazama 42-35 in the quarterfinals Thursday after knocking off county rival Douglas 51-43 in the first round.
