Roseburg business owner announces house candidacy

ROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg business owner announced on Tuesday that he is going to run for the Oregon House seat currently held by Representative Tim Freeman.

Dallas Heard said in a release that he wants to continue the work Freeman has done in the Oregon House, representing District 2.

Freeman will be running for the county commission seat currently held by Joe Laurance, after Laurance announced his intention to retire at the end of his term.

"I'm running for State Representative to continue the tradition of quality leadership provided by local leaders such as Representatives Tim Freeman and Bruce Hanna," said Heard. "Representative Freeman has served Oregon and House District 2 well, but clearly there is more work to be done to promote local job growth and improve the state's economy."

Heard is the owner of Emerald Lawns as well as several rental properties. He and his wife Hanna live in Roseburg and are expecting their first child this summer.

Heard says he will focus his campaign on making it easier for businesses to create jobs, improving the quality of life in the region and limiting the growth of state government.

He says he is especially concerned by the continuing decline of timber harvest revenues for Douglas County, what he calls one of the biggest challenges for the near future.
