Woman injured after rolling ATV at the dunes
COOS COUNTY, Ore. -- With summer here, tourism on the Oregon coast is increasing, and so is the number of ATV accidents at the dunes.
Authorities say a 55-year-old California woman rolled her ATV down a 35-foot drop on the south side of V-8 Hill at the Oregon Dunes National Recreaction Area on Sunday.
She suffered mid and lower back injuries.
Lt. Lawrence Van Hoof from the Hauser Fire Department says aciidents like these are all too common. "That's the biggest thing we see," he said. "People come in from out of town and they don't know the dunes, they want to go wide open and it doesn't work."
Emergency crews say it's important to practice safety and to know the dunes change constantly with the wind.
