The newest maps are more detailed but still include the same important evacuation information as the old maps.
Coos Bay Fire and Rescue battalion chief Howard Owens says the best thing people can do to prepare is educate themselves.
"Know if your in an induction zone and listen to emergency broadcast here on the radio or television as far as if you need to evacuate and when you need to evacuate," Owens said.
"One of the things we don't like is to dial 9-1-1 and tie up emergency response."
Owens says you should only dial 9-1-1 if you are actually experiencing an emergency not for information.
The effectiveness of the new maps will be tested out in a planned evacuation is scheduled for May 31 at 2pm.
