The director of Thurston County Animal Services tells The Olympian that her agency is able to rescue harbor seals. Susanne Beauregard said she was surprised to learn about the stranded pup Thursday evening and was trying to find someone to pick it up.
Officials at Wolf Hollow wildlife rescue on San Juan Island have said they would be able to accept the pup if it were brought to them.
Brandy Garcia lives just 50 yards from where the baby seal has been stranded and has spent the past three days desperately trying to find someone to help. She says she was told Animal Services would be sending someone, most likely Friday morning.
Garcia says she knows harbor seal mothers can leave their pups resting on shore and return to feed them but that hasn't happened with this one.
