Coast Guard recovers Brookings boy's body from seaside cliff

A Brookings boy fell to his death from a seaside cliff on Tuesday.

According to Curry County Sheriff's Office, 15-year-old Dylan Speir was out fishing with friends near Chetco Point and the end of Tanbark Road.

Brookings Police Lt. Donny Dotson said in an interview with the Curry Coastal Pilot said:

“They decided to take a break from fishing and two of the boys headed up the cliff toward Tanbark, while (Speir) stayed behind to fish some more,” Dotson said. “After awhile, the friends tried to call (Speir) on his phone. When they couldn’t reach him, they alerted his family and a search began around 4:30 p.m.”

Dylan's father found the boy's body a rocky ledge about 15 feet above the water and performed CPR.

Dylan was pronounced dead on scene by emergency crews on scene.

Coast Guard was called in to help recover the boy's body and was taken to the Brookings Airport.

No further information was provided.
