White House says US will stay out of Paris climate deal
WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) - White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders Tweeted Saturday that President Trump's position on the Paris climate agreement has not changed.
This news follows reports by The Wall Street Journal and Agence France-Presse that claim the president might have been reconsidering his position and softening his stance.
“The U.S. has stated that they will not renegotiate the Paris accord, but they will try to review the terms on which they could be engaged under this agreement," European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete said in The Wall Street Journal report.
In June, President Trump announced the United States exit from the Paris Climate agreement in the White House Rose Garden.
"We will start to renegotiate and we'll see if there's a better deal. If we can, great. If we can't, that's fine," Trump said.
Several European leaders responded to Trump's actions by saying they would not renegotiate the terms of the climate deal.
