Watch: High-speed chase comes to end on busy street

RENTON, Wash. -- There was a dramatic end to a high-speed police chase in King County Monday evening.

The chase began in Skyway just before 4:30 p.m. when a King County Sheriff's deputy spotted a suspicious vehicle, said Sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. DB Gates.

The vehicle sped off and the ensuing chase wound through the streets of Skyway and Renton, Gates said.

At one point, speeds reached as high as 70 mph and spike strips were deployed, Gates said. Near the end of the chase, the silver sedan tore through a parking lot on flat tires and hit a couple of parked cars as it tried to get away.

"He came in through the front lot, took our curbing out, hit a couple cars, (went) out the back street," said Brian Carlson, who works at the nearby Matthewson Automotive.

The man's run didn't last much longer; police boxed him in at Taylor Ave. NW and Rainier Ave. S in Renton.

Deputies pulled the man from the car and hauled him off to jail for investigation of attempting to elude police, Gates said.

Gates says three police cars were damaged in the chase in addition to the two parked cars. No one was hurt.

Investigators are looking into whether the driver might have been impaired.
