ROSEBURG, Ore. -- As temperatures drop, the Douglas County YMCA is hosting an event that can help people stay warm this winter.

The Third Annual YMCA Coat Giveaway will feature a free pancake breakfast and coat for those in need.

According to the University of Maryland, even a two-degree drop in body temperature can lead to a reduced heart rate and a loss of coordination.

YMCA officials say their goal is to help people stay safe in cold weather.

"We want to put the coats in the hands of those people who really need them at this time of year,” said Gary Williams, YMCA director. “When the weather's cold, everybody needs a good coat to wear."

Officials say they expect to hand out 300 coats this Saturday, December 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Y in Roseburg.
