Woman hit by 2 cars in crosswalk; driver who fled scene arrested

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - A car hit a woman crossing the street in a crosswalk and knocked her to the ground Saturday evening.

A second car hit the woman on the ground.

The driver of the second car left the scene before police arrived. Police caught up with that driver over the weekend and arrested her.

The pedestrian, Claudia Kimery, 74, died at the scene.

Kimery was crossing using a marked crosswalk on Highway 99 near Geer Avenue just before 5 p.m. Saturday when the vehicles hit hit her, police said.

Officers were able to obtain a positive identification on the second driver, 48-year-old Wendy Jo Beard, who was located at a mobile home park north of Cottage Grove, the Cottage Grove Police Department said.

Officers located the second vehicle and found evidence of the collision on the exterior of the vehicle, police said.

Officers arrested Beard on suspicion of Hit and Run.

The investigation is ongoing.
