With power back on, UO searches for cause of explosions
EUGENE, Ore. - Power is back on at the University of Oregon after a series of explosions in underground tunnels Monday knocked out power and sent black and white smoke billowing into the air.
The outage affected 18 campus buildings Monday. Service was restored to all of the buildings by midnight Monday, although 4 of those buildings remain on generator power.
Julie Brown with the UO said crews focused on restoring power on Monday. On Tuesday, they plan to turn their attention to figuring out what happened and repairing the damage.
prompted officials to evacuate the UO health center and issue a text message alert to students to avoid the area.
Lights flickered on and off at the Erb Memorial Union throughout the day, and several dormitories were without power, forcing students to use flashlights to navigate the dark hallways.
