Winston cop featured in national magazine

WINSTON, Ore. -- After 10 years with the Winston Police Department, Roseburg resident Sandi Koberstein has many reasons to celebrate.

She's been promoted as a detective for Winston PD, and is now featured in a 6-page spread in a national magazine called The World of Firepower. "The magazine is about guns, so it talks about the kinds of guns that I use, and the differences of being a small town and a big town cop," she said.

Koberstein says her sidearm is one many officers carry while they are on duty, just a little smaller. "I have my Glock .40, it's a 23 model. Most guys carry a 22 model, but the 23 model is smaller for the hand grip so it's more comfortable," she said.

Koberstein says that being promoted to detective has helped her with having more time to work on cases without the interruptions officers deal with on patrol. "I think the biggest thing for me is, is that it gives me time, especially since I'm not having to just focus on patrol, but it gives me time to make sure I take these cases and I investigate them completely," she said. "Really, my goal is to make sure they're more thoroughly done."

Koberstein's new position also allows her to work as a school resource officer for the area.

Which is kind of fitting: She says that if she wasn't working for the police, she'd be a teacher.
