Wildlife Safari to renovate theater, attract more visitors with grant award
WINSTON, Ore. -- The Wildlife Safari in Winston is receiving grant money from the City of Roseburg in an effort to increase tourism in both cities.
The Safari plans to use the $5,000 grant to renovate its Frank Heart Discovery Theater.
According to park officials, the theater was originally built to showcase its animals, but they want to turn it into an event center to help attract more visitors.
"90 percent of Wildlife Safari traffic is from out of town; we've started tracking that,” said Safari marketing director Jacob Schlueter. “Our attendance isn't going down; it's skyrocketing. We've been on an upward trajectory for the last four to five years."
The renovation work at Wildlife Safari is planned for the start of next year.
