ROSEBURG, Ore. -- If you want to throw a pie in the face of a KPIC reporter, next week you just might get the chance.
Every year, the Greater Douglas United Way kicks off a campaign of giving.
The money raised goes to 31 different member agencies, and helps organizations that range from food providers to support for abuse survivors.
The need is serious. Jim Darrow with the United Way told KPIC News, "The need is great here in Douglas County. One in three folks will access one of our agencies this year, and it's been tracking that way for a couple of years now. all of our agencies are indicating an increase in demand and a decrease in funding," he said.
But the events to help raise the money are anything but serious.
On Wednesday, organizers are offering people the chance to pie local celebrities in the face.
KPIC's Kat Wolcott will be there to take one in the face for a great cause.
The fun kicks off Wednesday at 3:00 pm.
Organizers are shutting down the 700 block of Jackson Street for the event, and anyone is welcome to attend.
