Veterans Group reacts to exit of Roseburg VA Director

The Vietnam Veterans of America, Umpqua Valley Chapter 805 wants to make their voices heard, and with signs in hand, they're showing their support for the Roseburg VA Hospital.

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A veterans group in Douglas County is reacting to the exit of the director at the Roseburg VA.

The Department of Veterans Affairs made an announcement saying that Director Doug Paxton was reassigned. The Vietnam Veterans of America, Umpqua Chapter 805, held a rally last week to show support for the VA and Paxton.

One of the Vietnam Veterans tells us that he's concerned this might cause long term problems for veterans.

"If they keep this up, and getting rid of director after director, we could end up with them closing this VA Hospital down," said Terry Mooney, with the Vietnam Veterans of America.

In a statement, the Roseburg VA says this is a step to improving care for veterans. David Whitmer will serve as the interim director of the VA.
