Veteran: 'It's times like these I cry'
WINSTON, Ore. -- Dozens gathered in Winston Thursday, to honor those who've served and paid the ultimate sacrifice.
It was an emotional ceremony, where those who fought reflected on servicemen and women who died in combat.
Veteran Rob Shepard told KPIC News he has seen the worst. "I've lost people, I've had people get killed right next to me," he said. "For the love of God I don't know why."
Shepard says that the day also serves as a reminder that freedom comes at a price. "It's times like these I cry. Not because I'm hurt or anything, but because I'm proud."
Organizers we spoke with said they just wanted people to remember the sacrifices of others.
