United Way tops last year in annual campaign
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- The Greater Douglas United Way campaign has come to a close, and officials say this year was a great success.
Organizers raised nearly $745,000, topping last year's total by nearly $120,000.
In such a tough economic climate, executive director Bryan Trenkle says they were able to raise so much because the generous donations of Douglas County residents. "It takes community to change community, and Douglas County once again stepped up, and I'm blown away," he said.
All of the money raised will go to the United Way's 31 member agencies, plus 29 local non-member agencies.
Trenkle says he hopes to raise even more money next year, and he's already coming up with ideas to reach more people with the annual campaign.
