UCC adding six new sports to athletics slate this fall
ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Umpqua Community College will add six new sports to their athletics roster this fall.
UCC's athletic director is looking for coaches for men's and women's cross country, wrestling and obstacle course racing teams.
UCC had cross country and wrestling teams more than a decade ago.
Obstacle course racing is a new sport that's gaining in popularity.
"Obstacle course racing … we were looking to enhance our outdoor recreation program, so that kind of fits along with that,” says UCC athletic director Craig Jackson. “Plus, there's a big community in this area that's into, obviously, climbing and outdoor activities; and it's an area where we can bring some kids from outside of the county as well and to come see what Douglas County has to offer."
Jackson says the additions will add 85 student athlete positions at the college.
Venues for the sports will be on UCC's main campus with construction starting soon.
