Truck tumbles off Oregon Coast Hwy 101

NEWPORT, Ore. - A trucker lost control on Highway 101 along the Oregon Coast and crashed into a guardrail and down an embankment before overturning and coming to rest upsidedown.

The driver, 45-year-old Theo Kohlasch of Portland, was able to get out of the overturned truck.

Kohlasch was taken by ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was later cited by troopers for Careless Driving, Oregon State Police said.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. as the truck headed south of Hwy 101, north of Newport.

As the truck entered a curve, Kohlasch lost control and drove into the guardrail and down the hillside.

Northwest Firefighters Environmental responded to the scene to handle a diesel spill.

The highway was closed periodically during the day to remove the truck and clean up the damage.
