Truck hits 5 overpasses on I-5 in Washington

TUMWATER, Wash. - A dump truck hauling a large piece of construction equipment struck five overpasses on Interstate 5 Friday morning in Thurston County, the Washington State Patrol reports.

State troopers finally stopped the southbound truck before it could cause any more damage.

The truck was hauling an excavator, and the boom was raised too high for the freeway.

Trooper Guy Gill said two cars travelling behind the truck had their tires flattened as they ran over debris knocked loose from one of the overpasses.

Gill says it appears the damage to the overpasses is cosmetic and no one was injured.

The truck driver is facing several potential violations and fines.
