Truck fire closes Oregon highway
RHODODENDRON, Ore. - A truck hauling electronics caught fire and closed Highway 26 on Thursday for almost 5 hours.
The trucker wasn't hurt, but a firefighter was taken to the hospital with a shoulder injury and later released, state police said.
The 2007 Freightliner pulling a trailer loaded with electronics was westbound when a tire blew out.
As driver Robert Axmaker, 74, of Prineville brought the big rig to a stop, a fire started and quickly spread somewhere near the front of the truck.
Hoodland Fire District responded and knocked down the flames, which had spread to nearby trees.
